| Hi no Tori: Gaou no Bouken | Konami | 1987 | "Hi no Tori" is a well made Konami platform game based on a manga series by Osamu Tezuka (the creator of Astroboy). Killed enemies leave blocks behind which you can collect and then use anywhere else to reach otherwise unreachable places. Graphics and music are well done for an early Famicom game from 1987 and the controls are good as well. Sadly Konami placed a few very hard to find secret doors throughout the game which in the end must be found to warp to other places/time zones of the game. I don't like it to be forced to look into a walkthrough for an otherwise very simple and straightforward game. | labelimageminimize |
| Tetsuwan Atom | Konami (Home Data) | 1988 | A platform game from Konami based on Astro Boy... can't go much wrong I thought. Well, sadly I was wrong. Sure there are worse games on the NES/Famicom but for a Konami game it is quite disappointing. Not only doesn't it feature the great graphics of other Konami games of that time (like Contra or Salamander), but it is also not very well playable. Best example is the way how to activate the flight mode. Jump three times at exactly the right time to activate it. Try this in narrow spaces and you won't stop swearing. In some levels you have to figure out how to progress by solving little puzzles or retrieving certain items. Besides that the game is rather linear. | labelimageminimize |
| Mitsume Gatooru | Tomy (Natsume) | 1992 | title means "The Three-eyed One". it is based on anime of the same title.***Game description from [[link:http://www.romhacking.net Romhacking.net]]: Damn, how much cooler can a game get? Okay, you're this guy that shoots bullets out of this dot in his forehead, and you go around killing those Troll things that were EVERYWHERE back in second grade, remember those? And you even kill helpless puppy dogs! It's a real wonder this game never made it over here. But it still would've been a pretty cool game, even though NOA probably would have changed the dogs into something else.. Probably more Trolls, hopefully. I mean, what else is there to say? It's a pretty fun game. You can charge your shot, and throw this odd trident thing, which you can jump on to get to high places. The monsters drop money when they die, and you can shoot the money and it increases in value, which is just plain neat. It's freaky, and really really cool at the same time, just like all good games should be. OK that's all.
